On Airbnb and Booking, the cover image has less than two seconds to earn a click. Descriptions, amenities, reviews and conditions matter only after that first photograph has persuaded a guest to open the listing.
I photograph hotels, B&Bs, serviced apartments and short-term rentals across Milan and northern Italy. Each shoot is planned around what makes the property worth choosing, presenting the experience at its best without creating expectations the real space cannot meet.
Why the cover matters more than the description
A property appears beside many options with a similar location, capacity and price. Its cover must read clearly at thumbnail size and make one advantage immediate: the view, the light, the design, or the character of a shared space.
Booking platforms observe how travellers interact with listings. A strong cover supports the click; a dark or confusing image gives people a reason to keep scrolling. I therefore plan cover candidates during the shoot, checking subject placement and how the composition will survive different desktop and mobile crops.
The result remains honest. I correct perspective, light and colour, but do not stretch rooms or remove permanent features. Good hospitality photography builds desire and gives guests a reliable understanding of what they are booking.
What I photograph
Coverage can include room categories, bathrooms, reception, lounge and breakfast areas, entrances, accessible exteriors, balconies, views and welcome details. If a desk, terrace or design feature is central to the offer, it earns a clear place in the sequence.
Before the shoot, we identify which spaces represent the property and what distinguishes one room category from another. Repeating every near-identical room adds volume, not value; a concise image set makes it easier for guests to understand their choice.
The schedule follows natural light and hotel operations. Rooms should be guest-ready before I arrive. We reserve quiet windows for shared areas so the shoot causes as little disruption as possible.

Prepared for the booking platforms
Airbnb, Booking, Expedia and VRBO display images through different interfaces and crops. A file composed only for a wide website can lose its subject in a mobile card. I leave useful space around key elements and supply versions suited to the agreed publishing channels.
You also receive a suggested upload order. It opens with the strongest reason to book, clarifies the room and bathroom, then moves through shared facilities, amenities, details, access and exterior. The gallery becomes a short visual journey rather than an unordered folder.
Final photographs have corrected perspectives, consistent colour and screen-ready brightness. Windows retain detail when the view matters, while mixed lighting is balanced so walls, textiles and finishes still look like the real property.
Vertical images for social
An automatic crop of a landscape image rarely makes a strong vertical. If Instagram or TikTok matters to the property, I can capture dedicated 9:16 compositions on request: tighter room views, atmospheric details and frames designed to fill a phone screen.
These still images work for Stories, covers and organic posts. They use the same light and visual language as the booking gallery, creating a consistent path from social discovery to the property page.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to empty the rooms before the shoot?
No. Rooms should look ready for an arriving guest: coordinated bed linen, clear surfaces, arranged curtains, and operational items out of sight. I send a preparation checklist beforehand so the team can present each room consistently.
Can you photograph while guests are staying at the property?
Yes, as long as the rooms and areas on the shot list are available during agreed windows. I plan the route with reception or the property manager and photograph shared spaces at quieter times. Identifiable guests are not included without a specific agreement.
How many rooms can you cover in one session?
It depends on the number of room types, the distance between spaces and how well each room is prepared. There is usually no benefit in repeating identical rooms. Once I have the space list, I provide a shot plan and timing estimate.
Do we need permission from the building?
Authorised access to the unit is normally enough for its interiors. If the shoot includes a shared lobby, courtyard, terrace, façade or other common area, the manager should check any building rules and permissions in advance.
Do you work outside Milan?
Yes. I work throughout Lombardy and northern Italy. Any travel time and expenses are stated clearly in the quotation according to the location and scope.
